A proposal to allow snowmachines in one of Anchorage's premier cross-country skiing parks has been rejected.

The Anchorage Daily Newssays the city Parks and Recreation Commission and the city Parks Department said no to a proposal to allow snowmachiners in the motorcross area of Kincaid Park.

The commission last week approved two other measures instead. The commission recommends that the group wanting to allow snowmachines in the park hold up to four special events there next winter. Parks director John Rodda says that will give the city a chance to measure the impacts of snowmachines in Kincaid.

Rodda says the group also should take next year to come up with a plan to permanently bring snowmachines and motorcross to a suitable site in Anchorage.
