Rescues crews responded to the Flattop Mountain area near Anchorage Monday evening after reports of a hiker in distress.

Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Beth Ipsen says an unidentified man fell into a 10-foot deep snow crevasse while hiking with two other people. He suffered bumps and bruises, and he was unable to climb out on his own because the crevasse was too deep.

AST Helo 1 responded to the area and airlifted a member of Alaska Mountain Rescue to assist the stranded climber. The trooper helicopter then diverted to the Eagle River area to assist in the rescue of three canoers who was missing.

The helicopter returned later to Flattop Mountain trail to pick up the hiker and rescuer.

AST says the hiker suffered only minor injuries.
