A 62-year-old retired Tanana teacher has been sentenced for sexually abusing a young adolescent girl.The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://is.gd/kHvqSK) says David Bowen of Fairbanks has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison as part of a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty in late June to attempted second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and will have to register as a sex offender for 15 years.
A criminal complaint says Bowen rubbed the breasts of a teenage girl he was acquainted with and continued the contact after she told him it made her uncomfortable.
Several friends and family wrote letters to Alaska Superior Court Judge Randy Olsen saying Bowen was a good father, teacher and member of the community who should be given leniency.
