Missing Snowmachiner Steve Craig Found (Rita Craig / January 13, 2013) |
Update: A missing snowmachiner from Homer was found Sunday afternoon, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Steve Craig, 41, was spotted walking by a volunteer pilot around 2:15 p.m. Sunday and a volunteer helicopter took Craig to the Central Peninsula Hospital.
Megan Peters, AST spokesperson, said Craig abandoned his snowmachine and was in the area near Cytex Creek, which is “essentially in the middle of nowhere.”
Peters said his condition was not immediately known just before 4 p.m. Sunday.
Original: A search was underway Sunday morning for a missing snowmachiner in the Kenai Peninsula area, according to Alaska State Troopers.
41-year-old Steve Craig, of Homer, was reported missing from family and friends on Friday night after Craig reported that he was low on fuel and didn’t have proper gear or food in the Caribou Hills area.
60 snowmachiners were divided into teams searching nearby areas.
Troopers said three fixed wing aircrafts and a helicopter were also searching for Craig.
Volunteers gathered Sunday morning at East End Road and the Homer Fire Department were accounting for search parties.
