Update: On Monday morning, Anchorage police released the name of Sunday's deadly downtown shooting victim as 27-year-old Said Beshirov, of Anchorage.
Original: A little before 3:00 a.m. Sunday, Anchorage Police Department Patrol Division officers responded to 901 W. 6th Avenue, the Platinum Jaxx nightclub downtown.
Witnesses informed officers that shots had been fired during a large disturbance outside of the nightclub.
A critically injured male in his mid-twenties was found at the scene. Detective Sgt. Markiecwz confirmed that the victim was struck by gunfire. Medics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was declared deceased.
Detectives believe that multiple witnesses may have recorded this incident on their smartphones. These witnesses are asked to please contact APD immediately at (907) 786-8900 so that detectives can download these videos. Witness smartphones will be returned immediately to their owners.
Lieutenent Dave Parker has reported that detectives do not believe this incident is related to the one concerning the severely wounded man found downtown.
