Christmas came a little early for some students of the lower Kuskokwim School District.
LifeMed Alaska and Toys for Tots brought more than 1,000 toys to Bethel children on Friday.
Students from three different schools from pre-school through 6th grade were able to bring home a toy from Santa.
The principal of one of the schools says the price of fuel costing $6.00 to $7.00 a gallon can really hit families in the pocketbook.
“The economy is very tough out here as well,” Joshua Gill, Principal of Mikelnguut Elitnaurviat Primary School, said. “A lot of gifts that parents just won't be able to provide this year, and it's just an opportunity to know that the kids are going to get a gift to go home with.”
This was the first year LifeMed Alaska and Toys for Tots collaborated for the event.
