ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP—
The trial against three Fairbanks-area militia members who are charged with amassing a cache of weapons and plotting to kill government officials will resume Monday in U.S. District Court in Anchorage. The trial for leader Schaeffer Cox, Lonny Vernon and Coleman Barney will last for another three to five weeks, and is being held Monday through Thursday each week..
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports jurors on Thursday heard a small sample of the 100 hours of recordings that federal investigators made.
This included a speech Cox gave in 2009 in Montana, where he boasted of his Peacemaker's Militia firepower. He also urged people present to ignore gun registration laws. The intent was that there would be too many people to prosecute.
