A trooper-involved shooting in Wasilla this morning ended with one man dead.

According to Alaska State Troopers, a traffic stop was conducted on Trunk Road near the roundabout on the Parks Highways at approximately 4.10 a.m. It was determined that there were three individuals in the vehicle. As the trooper was gathering information from one individual, another male subject exited the vehicle, produced a handgun, and fired multiple rounds at the trooper.

The trooper was wounded by the gunfire but was still able to return fire. The subject then took the AST patrol vehicle and fled. The AST vehicle was found approximately one mile from the scene and the subject was found deceased inside the vehicle. The release of the man's name is pending next of kin notification. The Alaska State Trooper was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and released.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has responded to the scene and the investigation is continuing. The name of the trooper involved in the shooting will be released after 72 hours.
