Freshmen heading to the University of Alaska Anchorage this fall who want to live on campus may be out of luck if they haven't applied by now.
Some students who waited until this summer to apply are finding themselves on a waiting list to lay claim to one of the 946 beds on campus.
UAA Director of Business Services Bob McDonnell says Chancellor Tom Case wants to expand student housing by nearly 50 percent over the next few years.
For now students are having to apply as much as a year in advance to live on campus.
“The problem is we can't have males and females in the same area,” McDonnell said. “So you may have a room with three men and we can't place a woman into that last room.”
UAA says the dorms are normally close to capacity in the fall semester, but only about 92 percent filled in the spring semester.
