About 300 volunteers turned out to build bicycles for 50 deserving children today, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The recipients were chosen by organizations that work with children and teens, based on what Martin Luther King Jr. called the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
“It’s not academic. It’s not athletic. It’s basically they’re good kids in some rough situations,” Abby Harding, the event’s volunteer coordinator said. “They showed trustworthiness, honesty, you know, good kids.” This was the fourth annual 50 Bikes for 50 Kids event.
