Hastings Fire Update - Morning June 8

A fire in the Interior grew by 5,000 acres overnight Tuesday after the wind shifted. The Hastings fire is now burning about 17,000-18,000 acres north of the Chatanika River, northwest of Fairbanks.

Wednesday, the weather is looking more favorable; it’s cloudy with an occasional drizzle, but still breezy, which could hamper firefighters’ efforts.

Officials say the fire advanced to the north, but has remained north of the Chatanika and south ofWashington Creek.

Fire fighters have 8 percent of the fire contained, and are focusing much of their efforts on the eastern side, which is closer to subdivisions and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
