On Saturday, the Anchorage Police Department released information of a woman found dead Sep. 28 near an East Anchorage camp.
APD said 54-year-old Janice Eikemo was found dead in a camp in Russian Jack Park near East 6th Avenue and Boniface Parkway shortly before 7 p.m. Friday.
Eikemo was reported to be drinking with friends and her step-son around a campfire earlier that afternoon, according to police. Witnesses said the people retired to a tent and she did not awaken and was not breathing around 6:30 p.m.
Campers tried to revive her, and APD along with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the scene.
APD said the Alaska State Medical Examiners Office will conducted an investigation to determine the cause of death and no foul play was suspected.
