A 70 year-old bicyclist takes on a 3,000 mile bike ride to raise money for a special education program.

Bicyclist Larry Emigh will be riding from Los Angeles to Boston, and made a stop in Abilene today.

Emigh's goal is to raise $250,000 for a program that provides free tutoring to dyslexic children.

Eyewitness News spoke with Emigh before he departed for the next stop on the tour in Topeka.

"It’s a lot of time to think, you are riding along…you think a lot of things”.

21 total riders are on the tour put on by "Crossroads Cycling", Emigh is the only one riding to raise awareness and funds for dyslexia.

Emigh said he has been able to physically recharge his body along the way, however he has been giving himself some mental pep talks on the road.

“Just telling yourself you will make it, hang in there and I did", adds Emigh.

The 21 riders will arrive in Boston later this month, the riders add they end the trip by dipping their front tire in the Atlantic Ocean as part of a tradition.
