A McGrath man died last week after he fell down a gravel pile and succumbed to his injuries, according to Alaska State Troopers.

A Wednesday AST dispatch says troopers were notified on the afternoon of June 27 that a body, subsequently determined to be that of 71-year-old James Demientieff, had been found behind a large gravel pile at the Takotna Road Gravel Pit in McGrath.

Alcohol may be a factor in the incident, with no foul play suspected.

Demientieff’s next of kin have been notified, and his body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
