The Anchorage Fire Department says a Midtown fire forced more than a dozen people to evacuate their homes on Sunday evening, but no one was injured.

Dispatchers received a call shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday about a structure fire on the 700 block of 42ndAvenue.

AFD Capt. Dan Joyner said all the residents in the apartment complex had already evacuated by the time fire crews arrived.

“I would encourage everybody to, you know, (use) good safety practices with cooking, electrical, and smoking, that sort of thing,” Joyner said. “I don’t have an origin and I can’t pin it at any one (of) those things, but you can’t be safe enough.”

Fire crews said flames was coming out of the front window of an apartment on the third floor of the building. There was no word Monday morning on how much damage was done to the property.
