A Minnesota motorcyclist died in a single-vehicle crash on the Alaska Highway near Delta Junction Thursday morning, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers responded at 10:45 a.m. Thursday to the crash, near Mile 1380 of the highway, where 73-year-old James Gerald Olexa had been driving west when he drifted into a ditch on a right turn.

Olexa’s motorcycle rolled and ejected him; he was wearing a helmet, but was declared dead at the scene.

The causes of both the crash and Olexa’s death are under investigation, but neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors.

Olexa’s next of kin have been notified.
