ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says a moderate earthquake early Tuesday morning rocked the Bering Strait region off Alaska's northwest coast.The information center says the quake began at 4:50 a.m. and registered a preliminary magnitude of 5.3.
There have been no reports of damage or of communities feeling the event.
The quake was centered 120 miles west-northwest of Kotzebue and 52 miles south of Point Hope.
The information center says the quake was about 19 miles deep.
The center is a cooperative program of the University of Alaska, the U.S. Geological Survey and the state of Alaska seismologist office.
