The world's fastest, tallest and steepest wooden roller coaster is now open at Six Flags Great America.
Roller coaster enthusiasts lined up by the hundreds at the amusement park in Gurnee, Illinois, on Thursday for a chance to ride Goliath.
The brave souls plunged down 180 feet while rocketing through twists and turns at 72 miles per hour at a near vertical 85-degree angle, according to Six Flags.
Rocky Mountain Construction, the company behind the coaster's planning and building, used an innovative new track to make the wooden coaster less rickety.
Initial rider reviews indicated Goliath lived up to its hype.
"It was definitely a great adrenaline rush," Jessica D'Onofrio, a reporter for Chicago TV station WLS who attended a special preview Wednesday, said of the experience.
