California, known for its beaches, amusement parks and tourist attractions, also counts on agriculture to drive its economy. In recent years, agriculture has grown and exports have increased with demand from China and other Asian countries. The value of California's agriculture industry, made up of nearly 82,000 farms and ranches, grew 15% in 2011 to $45.3 billion, according to the most recent data from the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Nationally, the state is ranked No. 1 in value of farm goods produced.
