It's not too late to make a donation to the Salvation Army's Neighborhood GIFT program and Toys for Tots to help Anchorage families in need this Christmas.
Jim MacKenzie with the Food Bank of Alaska says Neighborhood GIFT still needs frozen turkeys to distribute to families for their holiday meals.
Marine SSgt. Sergio Nunez with Toys for Tots says the program still needs numerous toys for children between the ages of 8 and 12. Organizers for the two events say they're coordinating with the Salvation Army to distribute food and toys to families in need.
“We give the toys, they give the food away for the Christmas holidays,” Nunez said. “And just like last year, it was a great day giving away toys, giving away food for needy families -- and that's what we're here for.”
Tuesday was the last day to donate for Toys for Tots, but program staff say they're willing to work through Friday to pick up toys that will be given away Saturday.
