A stretch of 15th Avenue closed since Friday reopened early Tuesday, according to Anchorage officials.
According to a MOA Traffic tweet at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, 15th Avenue is now drivable between Lake Otis Parkway and Orca Street.
The busy road next to Merrill Field was previously the site of a landfill, and city officials describe the closure as a precautionary measure.
Solid Waste Services director Paul Alcantar said the city currently believes it is “top-water."
He said the city is “still looking into the problem” and that he did not know if water seeping from the ground had anything to do with the landfill.
Channel 2 on Monday morning observed frozen brown-and-orange ice on the northbound lanes of the road, with chunks of ice on the hillside leading to the airport.
