Golfers Raise More than $100K for AWAIC
On a sunny Saturday morning, 144 people hit the greens at the Anchorage Golf Course for a charity fundraiser.
The first annual "Tournament of Awesomeness" brought in $106,000 for the Abused Women's Aid in Crisis (AWAIC) shelter.
A total of 36 teams participated in the event.
Houston Carr, grandson of Laurence Carr who started Carrs grocery stores, organized the event and donated $25,000 to AWAIC.
“I decided to do the golf tournament because my family has done a lot for the community over the years and I wanted to give back so I decided to do the golf tournament in honor of my dad and grandfather,” said Carr.
