Soldiers and families of the Spartan Brigade at Joint-Base Elmendorf Richardson will participate in the first ever Sparta Week from Sep. 3-7.
The nearly week-long series of competitions and celebrations will build esprit-de-corps with the 3,800 members of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division and families, according to U.S. Army Alaska.
More than 20 events have been scheduled, including a Spartan Sprint Triathlon, G.I. Jane Spouse Appreciation Day and a memorial ceremony to honor the 74 Spartans who lost their lives in service to the nation, while in combat.
On Wednesday, the G.I. Jane Spouse Appreciation Day will allow Spartan military spouses to take part in multiple events with the goal of Airborne familiarization; military vehicular shooting simulations, vehicle rollover training, an obstacle course challenge, a tire flip challenge and a sports fire shooting range.
“The paratroopers of the 4-25th IBCT are transitioning the brigade to assuming part of the quick reaction force mission for the Pacific region,” SSG Mark B. Shrewsbury, Brigade Media Liaison, said.
