ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

A federally-based program from the Department of Education aims to increase the number of adults enrolled in secondary public education in Anchorage.

The University of Alaska Anchorage's Education Opportunity Center (EOC) focuses on low-income adults who are first-generation college students interested in post-secondary education.

"It's about completing, if you don't have your high school diploma or GED," said EOC Program Director Andre Thom. "The program seeks to help students complete those and then go on to post-secondary education."

For the past 25 years the program has helped students with financial aid and with the college application process.
