FAIRBANKS, Alaska -

An Alaska lawmaker is pushing a bill that would add big bull moose-hunting derbies to the state's approved gaming activities.

North Pole Republican Rep. Tammie Wilson's bill would add moose derbies to a list that includes bingo games, the Nenana Ice Classic and the Palmer Rotary Club's cabbage classic.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the House Resources Committee looked at the legislation Monday, hearing testimony on the subject.

Wilson says the bill is being handled on behalf of the Tanana Valley Sportsmen's Association and the University of Alaska Fairbanks' rifle team to allow those groups to hold fundraisers for their activities.

Wilson says the bill would not increase the number of hunting permits available, but would rely on the existing system the state uses.

The bill remains in committee.
