All year long, the Alaska Native Heritage Center holds plenty of events celebrating native traditions and cultures and on Saturday, it kicked off its winter season.

The ANHC held the Circumpolar Music & Dance Festival, which featured contemporary and traditional music of the circumpolar regions of Greenland, Canada and Alaska.

The celebration featured Nanook, a Greenlandic Inuit band, Nukarik, Inuit throat singers from Nunavut in northern Quebec and Pamyua.

“So really we tried to cover the circumpolar north with artistic, exceptional musical performances,” said Anette Evans Smith, president of the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
