Anchorage snowboarder Ryan Stassel has been selected to the U.S. team going to the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The Anchorage Daily News reports he got the news Monday on his way to this week's X Games in Aspen, Colo.

The 21-year-old was a discretionary pick by U.S. coaches for the four-man slopestyle snowboard team that includes Shaun White, Chas Guldemond and Sage Kotsenburg.
