Elliot Anderson scratched from the Iditarod at 1:01 am Saturday just outside of Golovin.
Trail sweeps made contact with the Big Lake resident late Friday evening, but Anderson turned back after passing Golovin. Race officials say his 15 dog team was losing focus on the trail and needed rest.
Anderson and his team are being transported to Nome, while race coordinators await the final three mushers on the trail: Monica Zappa, Lisbet Norris, and Marcelle Fressineau.
Anderson is one of 20 mushers scratched so far from Iditarod XLII.
