ANCHORAGE -

Police have arrested a man who they say used a gun to rob an East Anchorage liquor store Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Brown Jug on Abbot Road around 9:49 p.m. yesterday.

The call reported that a man entered the liquor store, grabbed a bottle of whiskey, and brought it to the register. Police say the man then brandished a firearm in front of the store clerk and demanded cash from the register. He then fled on foot from the store with the bottle and money.

Police say ten minutes later they had located a man on foot near 88th Avenue and Lake Otis matching the description of the man who robbed the store.

The man, 28-year-old Joseph Stephen, was arrested for the robbery at the Brown Jug.

Stephen was charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree assault.

There were no injuries during the arrest.
