Police Report No Criminal Activity in Mountain View 'Suspicious' Incident
Updated 3:22 p.m. Oct. 31, 2013
Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Castro says police have located the missing female juvenile and that no criminal activity occurred.
According to Castro, a citizen reported to APD they saw a young female running down the sidewalk near the Mountain View car wash and an adult male had been chasing her, they were both screaming.
The witness said it looked very suspicious. As it turns out the girl was late for her school bus and the man was her father, and they were both yelling for the bus to stop.
Castro says she understands why someone would report something like that.
“Police of course had to investigate,” Castro said.
According to Castro, the girl was able to catch the bus after all.
Anchorage police are asking for public help as they investigate an unspecified "highly suspicious circumstance involving a juvenile" in the Mountain View area Thursday.
According to APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro, the incident occurred Thursday morning in the vicinity of the Mountain View Car Wash at 3433 Commercial Dr., near Commercial's intersection with Mountain View Drive.
"Police received a report just before 7:30 a.m. of the incident," Castro wrote in a statement. "It was reported that the incident occurred between 6:15 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. APD does not want to alarm the community at this time, until confirmation has been made that the incident occurred."
A Channel 2 crew in the area Thursday area saw numerous APD cruisers near the car wash, but didn't immediately hear any further details about what happened.
Castro emphasized the preliminary nature of Thursday's inquiries, as police canvass the area in an effort to identify what happened.
"We're just in a very beginning investigation, very basic investigation to determine whether what was reported to us did indeed occur," Castro said.
Several APD units are in Mountain View as part of the investigation.
"We have a combination of detectives and officers, and we have our command unit out," Castro said.
Castro says that detectives are trying to identify a potential victim and suspect in the incident, and that anyone who saw suspicious activity near its location should call APD at 786-8900.
