APD Seeks Information on Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges
46-year-old Kevin Dale Callander on charges related to child pornography
Anchorage police on Wednesday arrested 46-year-old Kevin Dale Callander on charges related to child pornography.
Det. Mark Thomas of the Alaska Internet Crimes against Children Task Force started an investigation this fall.
While working undercover, Thomas received illicit images depicting sexual exploitation of children from Callander. On Oct. 29, officers from an array of agencies served a search warrant on Callander's residence on Windsor Place in Anchorage.
Computers and digital media were seized from the residence, and forensic examinations revealed numerous videos depicting sexual exploitation of children as young as three or four years old.
"At that point we started finding numerous, numerous videos of what looked like local victims," Detective Mark Thomas told Channel 2, Wednesday. "Through our investigation we were able to identify a couple of them, and we have contacted them. We've got them in a safe place."
The task force was joined by Anchorage Police Department detectives, Alaska State Troopers and special agents from the United States Postal Service during the raid.
"Part of our investigation is we'll work with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children," said Thomas. "I'm going to send all the images on that computer, all the digital items to them, and they will run it through a data base, and they will let me know, one if the kids have been seen before, and if we know who they are."
Callander is being held at the Anchorage Jail, with no bail and has an arraignment scheduled for Thursday morning. APD is working with police in the Tampa, Florida area to see if Callander may have committed crimes in that part of the country.
Anyone with information is urged to contact APD at 786-8500.
