A car versus ATV crash killed a Big Lake man Saturday night, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Around 10:37 p.m,. AST responded to the crash between a 1995 Taurus sedan and a Yamaha ATV on Big Lake Road near Birch Lake Drive.

Troopers say responders pronounced 25-year-old Caleb J. Younger dead at the scene. 23-year-old Sierra M. Mahnke, of Wasilla, struck Younger with her car as she traveled south on Big Lake Road, reportedly he was also traveling the same direction.

Beth Ipsen, AST spokesperson, says the driver of the car didn’t see the ATV until she hit the back of it and the ATV didn’t have taillights. Troopers say Younger was riding on the roadway illegally, since there are trails in the ditch for ATVs to use.

Road conditions were reported to be normal for the winter season.

Mahnke reported no injuries and Younger wasn’t wearing a helmet, according to Alaska State Troopers.
