Denali National Park facilities will start opening their doors next week for the 2014 summer season, the National Park Service announced Monday.
The Denali Bookstore, operated by Alaska Geographic, will open May 13. The first sled dog demonstration will be at 2 p.m. May 15, the same day that many of the park’s other facilities open: Wilderness Access Center, Morino Grill, Backcountry Information Center and Denali Visitor Center.
The park road remains open for travel by private vehicles to the Teklanika River Rest Area through May 19. The park’s shuttle service will begin the following day if weather and road conditions permit. The full 92-mile park road will open for buses on June 8.
Caming is free at Riley Creek Campground until May 15, when fee collection begins. The Savage River Campground will open May 19, and the Sanctuary River, Teklanika River and Igloo Creek Campgrounds will open May 20. Wonder Lake Campground opens June 8.
A $10 entrance fee, which covers seven days, is charged for visitors 16 and older.
