A dryer fire caused a large-scale evacuation at a Downtown residential complex Friday afternoon, with firefighters reporting lots of smoke but no injuries as they extinguished the blaze.
AFD dispatchers say 13 units were sent to the Anchorage City Limits Lofts, at 239 W. 4th Ave., at about 1:40 p.m. Arriving crews reported smoke billowing from the building's second floor and residents already leaving.
While crews were able to bring the fire fully under control in about five minutes, dispatchers say the complex's residents were evacuated to the north side of the building due to the smoke still remaining inside.
Firefighters at the scene say it did take some time to track down the fire's location due to the size of the building, which was also a factor in AFD's large-scale response to the initial call.
