Police identified a body found Tuesday as that of a missing Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson airman.
APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro says the body of 22-year-old Staff Sgt. Tanner Volkers was recovered from near Basher Trailhead in Anchorage, where his Dodge pickup truck was found Tuesday afternoon.
A search initiated for Volkers, who was last seen at his East Anchorage home Saturday night, when he was reported missing after failing to report for duty Sunday.
“His next of kin have been notified,” Castro wrote in a brief statement Wednesday. “Police have not found any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”
Castro says nothing further will be immediately released about the nature of Volkers' death, out of respect for his family.
In a tweet announcing the identification of Volkers' body, APD expressed officers' sadness for his death.
"Our condolences to his family, friends and fellow (airmen)," police wrote.
