Fur Rendezvous officials had to cancel two events this year because of a lack of snow and participation.

The Yukigassen snowball fighting championships and the leaf blower air hockey events are both done for this year. Both events were scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

Only three teams, with eight people each, signed up for the snowball fight, but organizers needed about 20 to make it work.

Even with those cancellations, organizers say Rondy is more popular than ever. Anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 people are expected to line up along 4th Avenue to watch the popular Running of the Reindeer at 4 p.m. Saturday, and other events like an exhibition of snow sculptures draw huge crowds.

"This has been a very good year for Fur Rondy," said Jeff Barney, the event's executive director.
