A Good Samaritan attempting to intervene in a violent confrontation received minor injuries after a man opened fire in Mountain View.
Anchorage police officers responded to the scene shortly after 9:15 p.m. Friday after receiving a call about the incident. Investigation revealed a verbal confrontation between 32-year-old Mykel Olson and a female family member began at their residence on the 300 block of Bunn street, and eventually ended up outside.
Olson assaulted the female, and then assaulted a younger male family member who attempted to step in to help the female. Both victims crossed the street, according to APD spokesperson Dani Myren, when Olson pointed a handgun in their direction. A passing motorist attempted to intervene by placing his vehicle between Olson and the two victims.
Olson pointed the gun at the ground and shot several rounds, one of which ricocheted off the pavement and at the driver's face, grazing them.
Olson was arrested and charged with Assault in the second degree, Assault in the third, Assault in the fourth, Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the third, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the fourth. He was remanded to the Anchorage Jail and is being held on $50,000 bail.
