JUNEAU -

The House Finance Committee is putting the finishing touches on its version of the state operating budget.

The committee took up amendments Tuesday. It plans to take a final look at the package Wednesday.

On a 6-5 vote, the committee approved cutting $720,000 for advertising and research for the "Play Every Day" campaign. The campaign is aimed at addressing childhood obesity and encouraging kids to be active.

Rep. Tammie Wilson, who supported the cut, asked if TV ads were going to change someone's behavior. Rep. Cathy Munoz, who opposed the cut, said the campaign has been effective and sometimes it's good to get a gentle reminder to be active.

The committee also added $525,000 for an effort to help improve services to Alaskans with complex behavioral needs.
