An Anchorage Police Department K9 officer investigating a potential arson case early Monday morning stumbled across a man wanted for an allegedly killing and assault.

The officer was looking for suspects near the 2400 block of Barrow Street around 4 a.m. when he noticed a bike leaning against a building near a shed.

Kenneth Moto, 39, was found hiding inside the shed. He was arrested without incident.

Moto is accused of an April 19 incident outside the Panhandle Bar downtown. 36-year-old Daniel Stewart was beaten, and he died a few days later.

A woman was also assaulted and injured badly enough that she needed facial surgery and to have her jaw wired shut.

Moto is charged with manslaughter, first-degree assault and fourth-degree assault.
