A Fairbanks grand jury indicted the driver accused of striking a bicyclist in Healy with a truck and leaving the scene.
Gitte Stryhn, 56, died from injuries she sustained when she was thrown from her bike during the early hours of June 12. On June 19, Dustin Dollarhide, 30, was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and failing to render assistance.
Troopers previously said that Dollarhide admitted during an interview that he hit Stryhn – a longtime employee of Kantishna Roadhouse – with his 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 and that he thought the incident would go away if he “just went home and went to bed.”
Troopers also reported that Dollarhide’s breath-alcohol content was 0.180, more than twice Alaska’s legal limit of 0.08.
If convicted Dollarhide faces a penalty of 10 to 99 years for the murder charge alone.
A trial date has not been set but is anticipated to occur in early to mid-August.
