A 49-year-old Fairbanks man will serve 10 years in prison for fatally beating an elder from Circle.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports Alfred Harold Woods was sentenced Thursday in Fairbanks. He had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter as part of a plea deal.
Officials say 68-year-old John Alexander was seriously injured Jan. 12 and was flown to Anchorage because of the severity of his injuries. Those injuries included multiple broken bones and brain hemorrhaging.
Alexander died at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage about a month later.
Court documents didn't explain the motivation for the beating, and the subject wasn't broached by either side during sentencing.
However, both sides noted alcohol was a contributing factor.
