Alaska State Troopers say a driver who was reported crossing double yellow lines to pass cars on the Sterling Highway was pulled over and arrested as he tried to dispose of methamphetamine in his pocket.

Robert Chandler of Kasilof was charged with drug and reckless driving counts.

Troopers took a call Thursday night that a driver was speeding and passing on curves near Mile 165 of the highway.

An officer pulled Chandler over and saw him try to dispose of an item in his breast pocket, which turned out to be 7.5 grams of meth.

At the Homer jail, Chandler was also charged with violating conditions of his release from a previous felony drug case.

Troopers say Chandler is being held without bail. He remained in jail Monday.
