If you have a spare cellphone sitting around, then it could go to good use in November.
Wells Fargo and the non-profit “Cell Phones for Soldiers,” are collecting cellphones during Alaska Aces hockey games. You can also drop off cellphones at any Wells Fargo branch or at the Aces game on Sunday, November 3 and the weekend of November 15 - 17.
The donated phones are sent to Mindful eCycling for recycling, which includes the gold, silver and platinum from circuit boards, copper wiring from phone chargers, battery packs and plastic from phone cases and accessories.
Cell Phones for Soldiers says for every donated phone valued at $5, it can provide two and a half hours of free talk time to deployed troops via prepaid international calling cards.
In 2012, 760 cell phones were donated in Alaska that were recycled with proceeds used to purchase 1,000 prepaid international calling cards.
