Pedestrian Suffers Critical Injuries in East Anchorage Crash

A man suffered critical injuries after being hit by a car Monday evening, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Around 7:30 p.m., APD received a call after a white car hit a man near Bragaw Street and E 16th Avenue.

Police say the man, who is believed to be in his early 50s, was walking westbound and stood in the median, attempting to cross the southbound lane of Bragaw when he jumped in front of the car. He was struck in the second lane or the far right lane after failing to make it all the way across the street.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and was the only person injured.

“It's still under investigation, but it appears alcohol might have been a factor with the pedestrian,” said Sgt. Rod Ryan, APD officer on scene.
