A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued the pilot of an overturned aircraft near Cold Bay after Alaska Wildlife Troopers observed the upside-down craft over the mouth of Joshua Green River.
The plane was unoccupied, and troopers were unable to communicate with the pilot via radio or to land on the short sandbar where the plane was located.
AWT called Cold Bay Flight Service and requested a Coast Guard helicopter to respond.
The helicopter crew rescued Matthew Owen of Kasilof. He was uninjured, said Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.
The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified. Ipsen noted Troopers and Coast Guard officials have turned any further investigation over to NTSB officials.
