Police say a man is in custody Wednesday night, after allegedly stabbing a woman in a domestic violence incident and sending her to a local hospital.
APD spokesperson Anita Shell says police first received reports of the stabbing from a residence on the 13000 block of Back Road, just after 6:35 p.m.
In an initial statement released Wednesday night, APD says the incident appeared to escalate from a lesser confrontation.
"It was reported to police that a verbal altercation took place between a male and female at the residence and the male then proceeded to stab the female," officials wrote.
Officers at the scene say part of the altercation occurred outside the home, with an armed witness who saw the incident firing a shot into the air. Police were interviewing the witness Wednesday night.
After hearing the shot, the suspect got off the woman, who was hospitalized by medics with severe and possibly life-threatening injuries.
Shell says no charges have yet been filed against the man, whose name wasn’t immediately released Wednesday evening.
