Self-Defense Claimed in Shooting of Fairbanks Man

Alaska State Troopers say a 29-year-old man was shot and killed in his home northeast of Fairbanks and officers are investigating a claim of self-defense.

Troopers say Tommy Patton died in his Tungsten Trail home off the Steese Highway between Fairbanks and Fox.

Troopers took a call on the shooting at 12:16 a.m. Sunday.

They have identified the shooter and say the shooter knew Patton.

Troopers spokesperson Beth Ipsen tells the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner by email that other people were in the home when Patton was shot.

A handgun was recovered.
