Sterling Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder at Kenai Walmart
A Sterling woman has been arrested for attempted murder after a Friday night shooting at the parking lot of the Kenai Walmart, according to Kenai Police Department.
Around 7:10 p.m., Kenai police received reports of a woman, in a red Ford Focus, shooting at an occupied vehicle at the Kenai Walmart. The suspect was later identified as 27-year-old Ashley Nelund. Both vehicles left before police arrived on scene.
Police officers found the suspect’s car at a Kenai home and located Nelund near the area. KPD says a subsequent investigation led to her arrest.
As for the vehicle Nelund allegedly shot at, KPD Lt. David Ross says, “that vehicle and its driver have not been located, however, the passenger of that vehicle, a 17 year old male has been contacted by police.”
There have been no reported injuries due to the shooting.
Nelund has been charged with first degree attempted murder, first degree attempted assault and second degree misconduct involving weapons.
Kenai police say the shooting investigation remains ongoing.
