Police said a suspect in a disturbance in Mountainview stabbed  police dog, "MP "with a pocket knife multiple times early Saturday morning.

The attack on the dog came after officers responded to a report of a physical disturbance between two men. Police arrived at N Flower Street and Peterkin Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Initial reports to police were than one of the men had a machete.

Police found 37-year-old Nole Hommerding on the porch of a home with a machete. Police said when they ordered Hommerding to drop the machete, he ran away.

A press release said police pursued Hommerding with the police dog. MP caught up with Hommerding in the alley and bit Hommerding. Hommerding responded by stabbing the dog with a pocket knife. Police said officers subdued Hommerding with a taser, then arrested him.

MP was treated for three stab wounds and is expected to survive his injuries.

According to police, MP is a five year veteran of the APD.

Hommerding is charged with harming a police dog, third degree assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
