ANCHORAGE -

A 5-year-old boy medevaced to Anchorage after being struck by an all-terrain vehicle Monday is doing well, according to his family and Alaska State Troopers.

In a Wednesday AST dispatch, troopers say they were told at about 7:45 p.m. Monday by village police officer Jeffrey Melton that the ATV had hit the boy, who “was playing in the roadway.”

“The child suffered scrapes, bruises and fractured bones in his face,” troopers wrote.

As troopers responded to Ambler Tuesday, family members received word that the injured boy’s condition was improving.

“At about (3 p.m. Tuesday) family announced he was not suffering life-threatening injuries, conscious and in good spirits,” troopers wrote.

AST spokesperson Megan Peters didn’t immediately have further information on the incident Wednesday morning.

Troopers say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
